Gilles Granouillet was born in 1963. In 1989 he founded the company Travelling Théâtre, with whom he staged plays by Diderot, Sam Shepard, Émile Zola, Gilles Segal, Jean-Claude Grumberg, Michel-Marc Bouchard and Natacha de Pontcharra, as well as his own works. His plays have been staged by Alain Besset, Philippe Adrien, François Rancillac, Philippe Sireuil, Carole Thibaut and Jean-Claude Berutti. They have been translated and staged in a dozen countries.

He has also collaborated with France Culture on radio adaptations of his texts. He was an associate playwright with the CDN de Saint-Étienne from 1999 to 2010, where he worked on contemporary playwriting.
He has written and published over twenty plays. His most recent texts include Hermann, Nos écrans bleutés, L’Envolée, ma mère qui chantait sur un phare… published by Actes Sud-Papiers. Combat was published by L’Avant-Scène Théâtre.
He has also written for young audiences.
