Actes du Théâtre n°70 December 2013

Nicolas Billon was born in Canada and raised in Ottawa, Paris and Montreal. At the age of six he began writing stories on index cards that he stitched together to sell to his mother at a premium price.

Nicolas wrote his first play, The Elephant Song, at the age of 22. In 2004, the play opened at the Stratford Festival, the largest theater event in Canada. Nicolas is the youngest playwright to have his work performed at Stratford.

The play was subsequently performed in Montreal at the Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui, in the French version by the author.

Since then Nicolas’s plays and adaptations have been performed throughout Canada. In 2009, Toronto’s NOW magazine named him one of the ten theater artists of the year.

Nicolas has also written for the cinema — the film version of The Elephant Song will be released in movie theaters in 2014.
