Jean Collette was born in Belgium. He has written for radio (Le Gang des deux dimensions, RTB, 1962), comic books (Mickey, Spirou, 1981-1985), theatre – about twenty original plays (Imbroglio, Th. 140, 1965) and adaptations (Mistero Buffo, Th. royal de la Monnaie, 1972) –, television (Mort en transit, dir. by F. Charles, 1972), and film (Le Chaînon manquant, dir. by Picha, 1980). Two of his plays, Harlekijn in Afrika and Memories, were staged at La Nouvelle Scène d’Anvers. L’An 2000 was published by éd. Presses de la Cité in 1994.
He met Toni Cecchinato during Mistero Buffo. At the Th. royal du Parc, they wrote and staged two hit adaptations, L’Homme, la Bête et la Vertu by Pirandello (Th. du Parc 1994), and Volpone adapt. from Ben Jonson, followed by Garage des ancêtres (co-written 1997; association « Beaumarchais » writing and production grant), and Histoire d’amours (co-written and directed 2001).
Two of their feature-length screenplays have been produced: Ma chi te lo fa fare and Bruxelles-Gdansk-Bruxelles.
