Toni Cecchinato, a Belgian of Italian origin, is a stage, film and television actor. He has written, adapted, translated and directed numerous productions. He was the assistant to Dario Fo for seven productions broadcast on R.A.I.
He has adapted and staged: Méfiez-vous des Tsé-Tsé, by the playwright (Grand prix du Festival du rire, Rochefort 1984), Clinch by Francesco Pititto (1989), Dolla Mona ou l’Ecole des patrons by Michel Huisman (Festival d’Avignon 1976), Petites et Grandes Violences de tous les jours by Dario Fo (1978), On ne paye pas, on ne paye pas ! by Dario Fo (Brussels 1980; Prix de la SIA and SACD Belge for Best Adaptation of an Italian Play into French), Les Assiettes cassées by Dario Fo (1984), Couple ouvert à deux battants by Dario Fo and Franca Rame (Th. de la Valette, Ittre 1992).
He has acted in the following films: Le Chemin perdu by Patricia Moraz (1979), Le 4ème pouvoir by Serge Leroy (1985), Noyade interdite by Pierre Granier-Deffere, La Fille seule by Benoît Jacquot, Les Invasions barbares by Denys Arcand.
In 1972, he helped create the Nouvelle Scène Internationale collective, and in 1984 he founded the compagnie Sans souci.
He met Jean Collette during Mistero Buffo. At the Th. royal du Parc, they wrote and staged two hit adaptations, L’Homme, la Bête et la Vertu by Pirandello (Th. du Parc 1994), and Volpone adapt. from Ben Jonson, followed by Garage des ancêtres (co-written 1997; association « Beaumarchais » writing and production grant), and Histoire d’amours (co-written and directed 2001).
Two of their feature-length screenplays have been produced: Ma chi te lo fa fare and Bruxelles-Gdansk-Bruxelles.
