Anne-Laure et les fantômes Philippe Minyana | | | | This opera is made up of words exchanged by phone or fax. In that sense, this form of exchange, or trade, is a kind of frequency or vibration. Whether dealing with love, sex, economics or Death, the dialogues are expressed through a palette including all the different voices from this fin-de-siècle. Words resound; there are faces without a voice, voices without a face, and fragmented sensations. Every combination is possible, except silence. A noisy, talkative style punctuates Anne-Laure’s desires. This opera is based on that rhythm – somewhat like noise that makes sense. |
| “Some disappointment is keeping Anne-Laure from getting her bearings and fulfilling her desires, and figuring out what they really mean to her. She is without direction, unable to find peace of mind. The print-out memory of her child is her North Star; the child’s death, her undoing.
The play steers its course between these two poles – in the way the story and action unfold as well as in the writing, constrained by the paradoxical framework and recurrent spasms, almost like a stutter. Tears flow again and again. Pleasure comes in gasps. They say ‘I love you’ to make it come true.”
