Treize Étroites Têtes Joël Pommerat | | | | “I wanted to expand my palette of knowledge about other people. Having already delved into my own world as a playwright, I needed to include characters that were further away from me, […] to hunt for people who are different from us and whom we run into but whose mysterious ways we don’t have time to explore […]. It’s about excess, paroxysm, and going beyond limits. It’s about showing the other side that people can’t see and things that aren’t said. It’s about showing things that are hidden and the people behind them in the shadows who aren’t standardized.”
From an interview with Joël Pommerat
about Présence, the first version of Treize étroites têtes |
| “Huddled against each other on stage, nine people present themselves to the audience, then tell or live out their tragic stories in a rapid succession of scenes. […] comparable to the people filling the pages of sordid news briefs in the rape, murder and incest section. They love, suffer and say so in refined and distorted language that is improper but perfectly understandable. Their terrifying failed lives arouse a strange feeling of compassion.”
Laurence Liban, L’Express, 6 March, 1997
