Pôles Joël Pommerat | | | | | Alexandre-Maurice Butofarsy killed his mother, but he has no memory of the deed. His act was so brutal that it stuck in people’s minds. Twenty years later, Elda Older still remembers it, even though she has trouble recording the big and little events in her life… She is forty years old. One evening Elda, who is studying to be a singer runs into Alexandre-Maurice who has been released from the hospital. She tries to persuade him to dig back into his memory and explain what he did, write a book about it, and step forth from the shadows. The story is told in twenty-one short, catastrophic episodes confronting past and present. For eight actors. |
| “Pôles […] developed out of a close working process between the actors in the Compagnie Louis Brouillard and playwright-director Joël Pommerat. It couldn’t have happened any other way, because no essential elements are revealed in this fifth collective work, and therein lies the play’s subtlety. It’s a good thing, too, because the point of Pôles is to let things just slip out and demonstrate how hard it is to talk about what’s really happening.”
