Actes du théâtre n° 85.[ imprimer ]
Arnaud Baudrillard thinks his parents are too laid-back. All they think about is partying and having fun with their friends. He dreams of becoming a CPA. So he goes off on a holiday at his friend Serge Sitbon's in Juan-Les-Pins in order to be with a real family. But Serge's parents have also lost touch with the rituals and rules their son dreams about - going to live in Israel and becoming a rabbi. The two teenagers suddenly discover their parents are behaving like children who have to be taught everything.

Opened at the Théâtre Saint-Georges in Paris, September 18, 2015.
Staged by the playwright. Cast: José Paul, Marie Montoya, Loïc Renard, Gladys Cohen, Guilhem Pellegrin, Rudy Milstein.

At the Baudrillard's. During the night. The parents come home from a party and find their son Arnaud sitting there in the dark.

MOTHER What are you doing here?
ARNAUD I was waiting for you.
MOTHER You could have told us.
FATHER I thought you were having a night out.
ARNAUD You thought wrong. And you? Partying?
MOTHER When we party, we really party.
FATHER Weren't you supposed to spend the evening with your friends?
ARNAUD No.
FATHER What on earth did you get up to all evening?
ARNAUD I was waiting for you.
MOTHER All alone?
ARNAUD Yes, all alone.
FATHER You have the strangest ideas sometimes.
MOTHER You know we never come home before 2 a.m.
FATHER You should have gone to see your friends.
ARNAUD I thought you'd be at home.
FATHER What would we be doing at home on a Saturday night?
MOTHER Didn't you notice your sisters weren't here? That should have tipped you off.
ARNAUD I thought it was a surprise.
FATHER A surprise?
MOTHER A surprise for who?
ARNAUD For me.
FATHER What for?
ARNAUD Nothing.
FATHER I'm tired, 2 o'clock in the morning is too late for riddles.
MOTHER Did we do something wrong?
ARNAUD No, you just forgot my birthday. It's nothing. A day like any other. No, I understand. You probably had something more important to do. It's just that I thought you were going to surprise me, and you didn't. So I waited here all alone.
MOTHER We forgot.
ARNAUD Right.
FATHER Your birthday?
ARNAUD Right.
FATHER Are you sure?
ARNAUD I don't think the date changes from year to year.
FATHER I completely forgot.
MOTHER We forgot.
ARNAUD I guess you could say that.
MOTHER It's the 25th.
FATHER It's the 25th?
MOTHER Yes, that's right, it's the 25th. We forgot your son's birthday.
FATHER Your son too.
MOTHER Yes mine too, I forgot.
ARNAUD You forgot my birthday.
