Ca ira.(1) Fin de Louis
Joël Pommerat
Ca ira.(1) Fin de Louis
DR
Actes du théâtre n° 87.[ imprimer ]
Ça ira.(1) Fin de Louis is a contemporary political story inspired by the revolutionary process in 1789. What drives people to overturn the power structure? What new relationships should be established between man and society, between citizens and their representatives? Between fiction and reality, Ça ira. (1) Fin de Louis tells the story of that struggle for democracy.

… Making the past present
"And above all it's about the Revolution in a time that is both its own and ours, or one close to ours. Joël Pommerat has succeeded in inventing a kind of "ahistorical" time. The events are shown as they happened, from the financial and fiscal crisis in 1787, which triggered everything, up to the royal couple's attempt to flee. But the events are shown as if they were happening now. Making the past present is one of the piece's greatest achievements.
Joël Pommerat has chosen to eliminate all historical reconstitution, here again removing any decorative imagery.
This masterful restraint was orchestrated by Pommerat's excellent set designer Eric Soyer, who has made good use of the vast stage at the Théâtre des Amandiers in Nanterre.
The plain black and gray setting focuses on the essential - the text and the actors, in more or less contemporary costumes of a subtle variety ranging from the 1960s to the 2000s - and constitutes a vast tableau of bodies, attitudes and behavior specific to those strange animals known as politicians – whether male and female."
