I think it is very important to tell children tales which connect them to the present as well as to their roots. And this tale, which tells us about our farming ancestors, connects us to the earth. Tales talk about our fears through symbolic imagery about the fear of strangers, the fear of the dark, the fear of being abandoned. Tales usually take place in a strange, dreamlike atmosphere.
They also help us to externalize certain fears and even to resolve questions we have. That’s why tales come in different versions. Contemporary authors have created some very personal ones. There are also many illustrations of this tale in feature-length and animated films. »
